There’s something energizing about a sunrise. My brother and I experienced this on our semi-annual drives from California to Michigan for college. More than once, we spent the entire night on the road, trading driving shifts that lasted as long as we could stay awake.

But no matter how tired we were, we couldn’t sleep through dawn. Whether I was driving, or had just switched with Rob, I couldn’t take my eyes off of the beauty illuminated by the new morning light. It was gorgeous every time.

In Romans 13, Paul uses this picture to describe our life’s context, right now:

“The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.” -Romans 13:11b-12a

Put your hope in Jesus’ promise to come again soon. Realize that that time is nearer now than when we first believed. If you do that, you will find an energy that you could not have had before.
